Hello Gorgeous!
Recently, I’ve had multiple clients ask me for Traditional Chinese Medicine recipes that they can make at home to supplement their skincare routines. As many of you know, I absolutely love the approach of working on the skin from the inside out by incorporating foods that are anti-aging and skin nourishing. Today, I want to share the benefits of a less well-known fruit called the monk fruit with you. This is one of my all-time favorite Chinese herbs, particularly because monk fruit is naturally anti-aging and can be made into a delicious tonic that can be enjoyed often.
Monk fruit has gained popularity recently thanks to its application as a sugar substitute. However, monk fruit has been utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. Also known as luo han guo, this fruit got it’s name because it was originally discovered by monks in Ancient China. Monk fruit is hailed as the immortal fruit thanks to its believed life-prolonging benefits. Some of these benefits include: colon cleansing, cough relief, liver detoxing, energy boosting and weight loss. Its high concentration of Vitamin C gives this fruit anti-aging properties, which helps skin look young. Because of all of these amazing benefits, I highly suggest making my monk fruit tonic recipe, which you can find below, all fall and winter to stay in good health and to keep your skin nourished. While it likely isn’t sold at most mainstream supermarkets, you can easily find monk fruit at your local Asian grocery store or in NYC’s Chinatown.
The skin benefits of monk fruit are magnified when you combine consuming it with products that deeply hydrate the skin and promote collagen production. My all time favorite treatment for increasing moisture and renewing the skin at home is Meder’s Hydrafill Mask. Especially as autumn continues to unfold, with the air getting chillier and dryer, this is hands-down the best way to avoid a dehydrated complexion. This sheet mask made from bamboo fabric is soaked in a gentle hydro gel, which contains a high concentration of moisturizing components. Hyaluronic, tranexamic, thioctic acids, seaweed extract and other ingredients provide immediate moisturizing and nourishing effects, resulting in calmer and brighter skin. I love how soft and plump this makes my skin after just one treatment. You can find this mask at my skincare studio located on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. For maximum results, pair this treatment with an application of my Moisturizer for Dry Skin, which is a buttery, indulgent cream overflowing with nutritious extracts, oils, and butters. I designed this holistic blend to stimulate skin into acting “young” again, utilizing milk-derived lactic acid to renew skin overnight and superstar blackcurrant seed oil for rich, antioxidant protection. Together, monk fruit, the Hyaluronic Mask, and my Moisturizer for Dry Skin will have your skin looking radiant and youthful throughout the cold months of the year.
Did you know about the amazing benefits of monk fruit? Have you ever tried this impressive fruit? Feel free to try out my suggestions and see how your skin appears younger and more hydrated!
