Happy Tuesday Beautiful!
We’re just a few weeks out from the official start of summer now and while that brings about many joyful events to come, from beach days
to barbeques, it also brings about some serious skin issues. Dealing with increased breakouts or rosacea and eczema flare-ups? I know that this time of year can make it difficult to care for your skin properly. I want you to enjoy your summer, spending time outside (properly protected by SPF
, of course!) and feeling good about yourself. That’s why I wanted to share some information on the power of probiotics and how they can help your skin look and feel amazing so that you’ll feel confident all summer long:
For those of you who aren’t familiar, probiotics are good bacteria that help to keep your gut healthy and functioning optimally. In the past, many people have touted the benefits of consuming probiotics either by way of a supplement or fermented foods (such as yogurt, kimchi, kombucha, etc.). While I am a big believer in this, and make sure to get a healthy dose of probiotics each and every day, I also know that healthy bacteria can do wonders for you skin. When used topically, probiotics help to calm inflammation and quell chronic skin conditions. Acne, rosacea, and eczema can all benefit from regular applications of probiotics to the skins surface. Don’t forget though, your body is a system in which all parts work together. Consuming probiotics internally and applying them topically will be the best bet to help you achieve the skin of your dreams free from the skin woes that plague you.
One of the most obvious probiotic-laden foods is yogurt, which doctors have recommended in an effort to supplement healthy bacteria before probiotics were cool. My favorite kind is plain Greek yogurt, which is typically higher in protein and lower in sugar, and is a great snack or ingredient to use in smoothies. It also can be used as the base for an amazing DIY mask that will help to calm inflammation and help with anti-aging. My DIY Avo-Vino Yogurt Mask is excellent for hydrating dry skin due to the emollient avocado, as well as anti-aging due to the red wine’s concentration of antioxidants. Additionally, the yogurt’s lactic acid helps to gently exfoliate dead skin cells helping to clarify your skin.
Cecilia Wong Skincare Chamomile Toner
My award-winning Chamomile Toner creates a nourishing veil of droplets that also act as an extra water reservoir for skin to drink from, enhancing the power of your skincare regimen. The powerhouse probiotics stop acne before it flares up, killing bacteria instantly. Made from a probiotic-charged, holistic blend of aromatic herbs and botanicals, this toner is designed to deeply moisturize, refresh and purify pores. Because I knew just how beneficial probiotics are for the skin, it was essential for me to formulate a product that harnessed their power. I also love that there are so many ways to use this toner. Here are just some of my favorite uses:
1. Mist over cleansed face. While skin is still damp, apply serum and moisturizer to lock in the water and nutrients
2. Spray throughout the day to keep skin hydrated and pores cleansed
3. Spray before and after workout
4. Give your yoga mat a spritz to kill germs and bacteria
The next time you are experiencing a breakout or flare-up, try my DIY mask, using my Chamomile Toner, and/or taking a probiotic supplement. Remember, skincare starts from the inside out so I really do recommend being more valiant about getting your daily dose of healthy bacteria. The results will speak for themselves!
