Happy Tuesday Beautiful!
I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July and spent time enjoying the fabulous weather we’ve been having! I know I enjoyed spending time with my friends and family while staying protected from the harmful rays of the sun. This time of year, we tend to be busier, which means that sometimes our skincare gets put on the back burner. However, as I’ve discussed in my last blog post, without proper skincare during the warmer month of the year, it’s difficult to avoid sweat acne and other common skin issues. Typically, I am all about prevention. Just as Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches, I feel it is important to care for yourself daily in order to avoid having to treat yourself symptomatically. However, sometimes you just can’t help it. Whether you forgot to reapply sunscreen or you got left your all-natural bug repellent at home, I wanted to share some remedies to help fix these issues, as well as some preventative tips to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Issue: Bug bites are driving you crazy
Bug bites are more usually more annoying than painful. However, when left untreated, if you continue to scratch the skin, you can break the skin and increase the chance that a simple bug bite will leave you with a permanent scar.
Solution: DIY Bug Bite Itch Relief Oil
This DIY Bug Bite Itch Relief Oil will help to soothe your urge to scratch your skin. The Peppermint Essential Oil helps to cool the bite, while the Lemon Essential Oil helps to kill bacteria. The addition of Lavender is to soothe and calm inflammation. I recommend making this in a rollerball so that you can bring it on the go and use it whenever necessary.
Prevent it next time: Jao Patio Oil
This all natural body oil utilizes Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil to naturally repel pests. The best way to avoid getting bitten is to apply this to any exposed skin when spending time outside, especially in the evening.
Even when you apply sunscreen, you can still get sunburn if you’re not diligent about reapplication. Sunburn can definitely put a damper in your day, as it tends to be hot and painful. In the long run, sunburns can contribute to your risk for skin cancer and, therefore, it’s prevention should be taken seriously.
Solution: Good Old Aloe Vera
When it comes to sunburn, I love using fresh aloe vera directly on the burn. I like to stash it in the fridge or freezer for a bit prior to application so that it provides cooling relief. Aloe vera helps to reduce the inflammation associated with sunburn, while also encouraging cell turnover to help you heal as quickly as possible.
Prevent it next time: Sunscreen
I recommend a high quality natural sunscreen that utilizes Zinc to fend off against damaging rays. However, the key is to be consistent about applying it repeatedly. When spending time outdoors in direct sunlight, every half hour or so I like to reapply. I also recommend finding shade whenever possible and wearing UPF clothing that is formulated to protect against the sun.
Issue: Body Acne
Unfortunately, due to hot, sticky summer weather, an accumulation of sweat can lead to body acne. This condition can be annoying and difficult to get rid of once blemishes appear.
Solution: Blemish Peel Mask as an overnight treatment
My Blemish Peel Mask reduces blackheads and whiteheads by way of powerhouse ingredients Sage and Spearmint, which remove toxins and oxygenate the skin. Kaolin Clay draws out impurities from pores. By applying a thin layer to the area experiencing a breakout and letting it stay on overnight, you’re helping these powerful ingredients go to work. You’ll see results almost immediately, with a reduction of the breakout, as well as accelerated healing of dark marks and scars. Apply up to 4 times a week for an express route to clear, glowing skin.
Prevent it next time: Exfoliate with my DIY Tea Tree Salt Scrub
Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate! I cannot say it enough when it comes to those suffering from body breakouts. Exfoliating regularly can help to unclog pores and remove dead skin, which helps to keep skin clear. Thanks to the antibacterial Tea Tree Oil in this scrub, it will help clear your pores and prevent body acne once and for all.
