Happy Tuesday Gorgeous!
For those of you who live in the Northeast, I hope you enjoyed the beautiful snowfall that we experienced on Saturday. I love the first snow of the year and how gorgeously it coats the earth around us. However, with that first snow also comes some unfortunate skin issues, which are ushered in by the below-freezing temperatures and the harsh winds that are a reality of the coldest season of the year. From dry, flaky skin, to chapped, cracking lips, it’s important to take special care of your skin during the winter in order to both repair and replenish the moisture. Here are my top tips on how to calm your stressed out skin so you can glow your way into the new year feeling healthy and hydrated (from the inside out):
The biggest skin issue I see my clients facing this time of year is dry, depleted skin. Especially as we age, dryness exacerbates the appearance of fine lines. The skin savior I’ve been recommending is my Dry Skin Moisturizer, which helps to restore moisture back to your skin. My Dry Skin Moisturizer is a buttery, indulgent creme overflowing with nutritious extracts, oils, and butters designed to stimulate skin into acting “young” again. Powerhouse ingredients work together to improve skin texture, brighten skin tone, and diminish dark spots, all while deeply hydrating. Milk-derived lactic acids renew the skin overnight, and an extra dose of superstar blackcurrant seed oil adds rich antioxidant protection. Even for those of you who don’t normally consider yourself to have dry skin, this moisturizer really helps to create a barrier to protect your skin from the harsh elements.
I also can’t stress enough the importance of drinking enough water each day. Drinking water definitely becomes more of an afterthought in the winter due to it not feeling as hot and dehydrating as it does in the summer. However, between the dry heat in many people’s homes and offices and the harsh elements outside, dehydration certainly affects us in the winter too. I like to alternate between regular water, my DIY spa water, and warm tea to ensure I’m getting the necessary amount of water each day. This will not only keep you feeling healthy, but it will also help your skin stay properly hydrated as well.
Additionally, I find that when I get a new client who has been struggling with acne, the cold weather seems to exacerbate the severity of their skin issues. While this may seem counterintuitive, many of the acne products on the market are extremely drying and strip the skin of moisture. The usage of products like this, especially during the winter season, leads to the skin being too dry and, in some cases, even flaking or peeling. My Blemish Peel Mask contains pomegranate seed oil to nourish problem skin with much-needed essential fatty acids. While it also contains sage and spearmint to remove toxins and oxygenate the skin and Kaolin clay to draw out impurities from pores, the pomegranate seed oil prevents the formula from being too drying and depriving the skin of moisture. The Blemish Peel Mask is truly amazing for clearing and purifying the skin, reducing breakouts, healing dark marks and scars, and revealing hydrated and glowing skin. The Mask can also be found in my limited edition Bath + Mask Gift Set, which brings together an amazing multitasking ritual of applying a mask while taking a soak in the tub.
As soon as the temperature drops below freezing, my lips start getting dry and chapped, as do the lips of many of my clients. The best thing for locking in moisture and keeping the lips looking (and feeling) great is to apply a highly emollient lip balm. My Lip Healer contains mango butter, which is extremely creamy and hydrating. It also contains black currant seed oil, which helps to repair tissue damage and revitalize your dry lips to feel brand new. I also love that this product can be used in a variety of ways that come in handy during the dry, cold months of the year. I like to keep one in every purse or coat pocket and one next to my bed so that I always remember to apply it to keep my lips (and cuticles, among other things!) nourished.
