Happy Tuesday Lovely!
It’s hard to believe that Memorial Day weekend is just three days away! I love how Memorial Day weekend always marks the unofficial start to the summer. Beach season is one of my favorites because of how much time you’re able to spend outdoors with friends and family. Though I love heading to the beach, being an esthetician, I always seem to have skincare on my mind. I see many people neglecting their skin and doing irreparable damage that just makes me cringe. Remember, your skin is your largest organ and needs to be treated well to stay healthy. Overexposure to the sun, dehydration, and using improper products all contribute to breakouts, wrinkles, and sunspots. That’s why I decided to compile some of my best tips for having fun at the beach while also keeping your skin looking beautiful:
Though I always recommend this wellness habit, I like to be a little more vigilant with my dry brushing
in the days leading up to a beach day. Not only is dry brushing amazing for stimulating your lymphatic system, but also it helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce cellulite. I love how it makes me look and feel my best in a swimsuit. Remember: confidence and smile are always the best accessories to bring with you wherever you go!
Also prior to a beach day, I like to pamper myself with a pedicure using non-toxic nail polish. Looking down and seeing my perfectly polished toes makes me smile. My favorite natural nail salon is Sundays
in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. Their in-house line of non-toxic nail polishes provides a full array of beautiful color options, plus I can listen to a meditation to de-stress while getting my pedicure. Also, I wanted to mention that there are just a few days left to purchase tickets for my mini mani/facial collaborative event with Sundays on Saturday, May 27th
. It’s going to be a lovely afternoon of pampering yourself, plus you’ll go home with a goody bag filled with non-toxic, organic beauty essentials. To buy tickets, click here
At the Beach
The most important item that I never forget when heading to the beach is sun protection. As I’ve said before, May is National Melanoma Awareness month and applying a physical sunscreen prior to sun exposure is crucial. Whether you make this a priority due to health, in an effort to avoid a cancerous growth, or vanity, in an effort to avoid wrinkles and sunspots that age you, it does not matter as long as it is a priority. Spending as much time out of the direct sun as possible is also important for avoiding the negative effects of sun exposure. This time of year, the UV index is the highest, so it’s best to wear sunscreen every single day, regardless of if you are at the beach or headed to the office. I recommend choosing a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 (my favorite brand is COOLA
) and applying it 20 to 30 minutes prior to going outside. Be sure to reapply every 2 hours.
A day at the beach can leave your skin dry and dehydrated. Remember to drink tons of water before, during, and after your beach trip to try and maintain hydration. Once you get home, I recommend cleansing really well using my Vitamin C Cleanser to remove any dirt from your skin. Finally, follow up with my best-selling Black Currant Serum to nourish and revive your skin. The Black Currant Seed Oil and Blueberry Seed Oil help to repair tissue damage, aiding in reversing sun damage.
I hope you all have an amazing Memorial Day weekend, however you spend it! As long as you are surrounded by good company, you are bound to have an amazing time!
