Happy Tuesday Lovely!

Welcome to the fifth and final week of my “New Year, New You” Cleanse! It’s fitting that we are still working on our goals for the New Year because Saturday marked the start of the Chinese New Year! May the year of the Rooster bring many blessings filled with love and beauty! I’m so proud of all of you who have been following along with my cleanse and working on making tiny changes to see positive transformations in your life. Looking back, my favorite focus of the cleanse was on Self-Acceptance, which is something that is not talked about often in the beauty industry. Remember: “It’s not about fighting to look younger – it’s about aging gracefully, loving and accepting yourself, and, most of all, embracing it. Don’t let others tell you what is or is not beautiful. Decide for yourself to accept your skin, while still striving for it to be radiant and healthy.” This week, I wanted to explore self-care and indulgence. Indulgence tends to sound like a dirty word these days, evoking feelings of guilt and shame. That’s the last thing that should come to mind when you think about indulging in self-care, though. You deserve to take care of yourself because, as I’ve discussed before, when you don’t take proper care of yourself, you are not able to properly care for those around you. Focus on showing yourself compassion and gratitude and treating yourself with the same respect you show others. Consider this: A little pampering never hurt anyone!

Skin

It is so important to make “you” time to nourish your skin. Remember that taking care of your skin is not about vanity. Rather, your skin is your largest organ and it functioning optimally plays a key roll in the health of your whole body. You probably wouldn’t think you’re being selfish or feel guilty about taking the time to go to the doctor to take care of your health. This thought process could be applied to making time to keep your skin healthy: It’s not a luxury, but actually a necessity. My suggestion is to put yourself first by making a skincare plan for the rest of the year. I encourage you to plan out your skincare routine using a calendar so that you stick to it and carve out non-negotiable time for self-care. Here are the steps to planning a Skin Care Calendar:

1.) Plan monthly facials

If you can’t afford to make it into a spa once a month, try to get a facial every other month or quarterly. While it is essential to take care of your skin at home on a regular basis, there are certain skin treatments that only a licensed esthetician should perform, such as extractions. Additionally, though cutting edge technology treatments like Microcurrent and LED Light Therapy are now available in at-home versions, the machines we use in the treatment room are ultimately way more powerful, yielding quicker, more visible results in fewer treatments.

2.) Try participating in #MaskMondays by applying a face mask every Monday evening before bed.

Try out some of our amazing DIY mask recipes or try using one of my favorite new masks, Alchimie Forever’s Kantic Brightening Moisture Mask, which we currently sell at our Fifth Avenue location. It smells delicious, like fresh blueberries, and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and glowing. Another wonderful option is my Blemish Peel Mask, a tried and true favorite that helps to fade acne scars, oxygenate, unclog, and deep cleanse within skin’s dermal layers. Try switching it up by using a different mask each week depending on what your skin’s needs are at that time.

3.) Give yourself a weekly Gua Sha facial massage using our Rose Quartz Gua Sha Tool

Gua Sha is an ancient facial therapy based on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) used by emperors and empresses. Gua Sha is not just a beauty treatment but also has therapeutic benefits, such as improving blood circulation, relieving sinuses, and tightening the skin. I suggest giving yourself a Gua Sha facial massage at least once a week to reap the benefits. Food

When it comes to food, the word “indulging” typically evokes thoughts of unhealthy foods. However, it’s totally okay to indulge in foods that are secretly healthy but taste as though they aren’t! As long as you keep your sugar levels in check by avoiding refined sugar and you limit processed foods filled with artificial ingredients, you can have a treat every now and then. I decided to choose a food that has a history of being used for self-care and give it a healthy makeover so I chose chocolate. I came up with this recipe for a Healthy Chocolate Almond Milkshake to give you an option for a quick treat that not only tastes amazing but also has health benefits! Raw cacao has a very high concentration of antioxidants, which helps to fight against premature aging. It also helps to protect your skin, due to it containing Vitamin C and Magnesium. Finally, just like our best-selling Black Currant Serum, cacao contains omega-6 fatty acids, which helps to heal the skin.

Mind

So far, each week the “mind” section of the cleanse has featured more serious and structured ideas about how to find inner peace. This week, I actually recommend doing anything at all that makes you happy and feels good to you. Whether it’s watching a silly movie, hanging out with girlfriends, or playing with your puppy, it is essential to find time to just do what makes you feel joy. Recall Audrey Hepburn’s famous quote I brought up during Week 2 of the cleanse: “I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.” Smile, enjoy what you are doing, and everything else will fall into place! ​​​​​​​
