Happy Halloween Beautiful!
First, I want to wish you all a happy Halloween filled with fun and hopefully not too many sugary treats (for the sake of your skin)! Next, as many of you know, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has heavily influenced my treatments and my approach to skincare and overall wellness. I always like to think about how to treat issues holistically rather than treating the symptom alone. It’s unlikely you’ll see real change in your skin if you only spot treat one area. Our bodies work synergistically and need to be in sync to function optimally. It’s because of this idea that I’m passionate about the connection between our skin and our diet. That’s why many of the herbs that you can use to aid various health ailments, can also be found in my skincare line. Often these ingredients are able to perform a similar function when ingested or when applied topically. I love that the ingredients my products utilizes are things that you’re familiar with, rather than tons of gross chemicals and toxins that you can’t pronoun and have no idea about their origin. Today, I’d like to share 3 of these herbs with you and tell you about their function and where you can find them in my product line.
In TCM, Sage is known to remove toxicity and kill parasites. A cooling, pungent herb, Sage also has been used as a nerve tonic, for its ability to both calm and stimulate the nervous system at once. My Blemish Peel Mask utilizes Sage Leaf Extract, which, just like the herb itself, has astringent, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties. When used topically, Sage helps to combat acne and eczema, which is why it works so well as one of the star ingredients in this detoxifying mask. When combined with Spearmint Extract, this combination also helps speed up skin’s microcirculatory system, helping to fade acne scars, oxygenate, unclog, and deep cleanse within skin’s dermal layers.
My whole life, I’ve used licorice root, a popular herb used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, to help achieve bright, glowing skin due to it’s skin brightening abilities. Licorice Root is also known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits. Licorice root also strengthens your immune system, making it perfect for the impending cold season. My Moisturizer for Dry Skin, which contains holistic blend of organic licorice root, frankincense, pumpkin, and orange peel that works together to speed up cell waste and circulation. This buttery, indulgent creme is overflowing with nutritious extracts, oils, and butters designed to stimulate skin into acting “young” again. Now that the weather is getting colder, the Moisturizer for Dry Skin is the perfect way to get a healthy dose of licorice root’s anti-inflammatory properties while restoring moisture to your skin.
You’ve probably eaten some parsley to help soothe stomachache at some point in your life. This herb, typically used mostly as a garnish in the West, is used in TCM to aid digestion and regulate the flow of chi. Due to its ability to relieve indigestion, it’s a great herb to have after a large meal in the form of the herb itself or as juice. Parsley is also present in my Vitamin C Cleanser due to its power to reduce blackheads, reduce swelling, and brighten the skin. I created this cleanser because I felt that the right cleanser should do more than just clean; it should give you healthy glowing skin to start and end your day. During the formulation process, it was essential that I included a medley of good for you ingredients to brighten, reduce skin inflammation and balance oil production. A holistic blend of tangerine, alfalfa, borage, parsley and aloe fit the bill and made all my face washing dreams come true: deep clean for skin that’s never over stripped and smells of citrus.
